2025 has become my year of exploration. In place of holding an open studio exhibit this year I have devoted my days to researching fiber arts and learning from knowledgable and talented artist to broaden my creative expression.
I have also immersed myself into the world of poetry--expressing my art through words and images while discovering a deeper way to connect with others, which is very important to me.
Currently, I have the pleasure of attending a poetry writing workshop led by Joanna Fox at the Chautauqua Institution in western New York. She recently invited me to share my painting Mauna Kea Starlight with the class as we explore the beauty of ekphrastic poetry together. I am honored by their enthusiastic response and thrilled to share some of their poems--with their permission--with you.
If Mauna Kea Starlight inspires you to write an ekphrastic poem, I'd love to include your work in this post! Simply use the Contact Me button on my website to send your poem, and let me know how you would like your name to appear (or if you would prefer to remain anonymous).
Mauan Kea
Soft highway of clouds,
the sky a canvas for words--
journey a-birthing.
Eileen Ivey Sirota, (Haiku poem)
Hues of blues surround me
I look up into the black of night
Built on the foundation of puffy clouds
My red and green flowers are secured in the basement
Gene Law
Waves of white couds wash over my mountain eyes
I blink between the waves to glimpse my stars
Gene Law
Hughs of blue surround
Look up into the black of night
Flowers in the basement
Gene Law, (Haiku poem)
Mauna Kea
Sacred brother's light
Glowing stone, bright starlit night
Violent birth-rite flowers
Gary Glover, (Haiku poem)
