Learning to Weave

With my loom now constructed and the warp mounted at its center, I'm looking forward to learning the art of weaving, inspired by and in respect of the traditional practices of Navajo weavers.

I approach weaving as a learner, with respect for the Navajo people and the generations of weavers whose knowledge and traditions continue to guide and inspire this process.

Attaching the Pull Heddle

In this step I am learning to weave the nylon chord that will attach the pull heddle and allow it to slip smoothly between the warp half-sets. January 11, 2026

Heddles, Sheds and Tools

I begin to learn how to place my lazy heddle and pull heddle in order to position my batten between the warp chord to create my lazy shed and pull shed as I prepare to add my weft. January 12, 2026
